Emilie Collins, MD, MS
Endocrinologist
Emilie Collins, MD joined the staff at Saint Mary’s Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology in August 2007. Dr. Collins comes to us from her Fellowship in Metabolism, Endocrine, and Diabetes at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She received her B.A. from Middlebury College, in Vermont with a major in Psychology and Spanish and her MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Dr. Collins completed her Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan and completed a masters degree in Clinical Research Design and Statistical Analysis at the U of M. Dr. Collins will be seeing patients with diabetes, general endocrine disorders with a special focus on Polycystic Ovarian and Metabolic Bone Diseases.
Robert Rood, MD
Diabetologist
Robert Rood, MD, Diabetologist joined the staff at Saint Mary’s Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology in July 2007. Rood completed his undergraduate work in Chemistry and earned his Doctor of Medicine from MSU. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Saint Mary’s and Blodgett and completed his Diabetes and Endocrinology Fellowship Joslin Clinic- New England and Deaconess Hospital. Boston, Massachusetts. He is Board certified in Internal Medicine. Since 1984, Dr. Rood has practiced at Grand Rapids Associated Internists in Grand Rapids with a special interest in Diabetes. He is an assistant clinical professor with MSU and involved in numerous research projects related to diabetes and complications affiliated with diabetes. Dr. Rood will be seeing patients with diabetes and prediabetes at the Saint Mary’s Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology. Many of his patients from his 29 years of practice have followed him to Saint Mary’s.
Philip W. Tate, MD, MS
Endocrinologist
Dr. Tate, graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and was valedictorian of his class. He spent 1 year in psychiatry residency at the Illinois State Psychiatric Institute then transferred to post graduate training in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. Dr. Tate also received a Master of Science in Clinical Research Design and Statistical Analysis from the University of Michigan in 1991. Dr. Tate came to Grand Rapids in 1983 and entered private practice at Saint Mary's. In November 1991, he took an opportunity to move to Arabia for 2 years. Upon his return, Dr. Tate joined Butterworth Hospital (now Spectrum Health) Internal Medicine faculty eventually becoming the Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency. In Jan 2000, Dr. Tate joined the Wege Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology.
