Emergency Department

Definitions

MD/DO – a physician (doctor) licensed to practice medicine
RN – a graduate nurse registered and licensed to practice by the State Board of Nurse Examiners.
NP – (Nurse Practitioner)- RN with advanced education and clinical training. NP’s practice under the rules and regulation of the Nurse Practice Act of the state.
PA – (Physician Assistant) – health care professional licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision.
EMT-P – (Paramedic)- a person trained to manage the emergency care of sick or injured persons during transport to the hospital.
PCA – (Patient Care Assistant) - a non-licensed health care worker who assists in patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
Triage Nurse – Experienced RN in Emergency Nursing who performs the duties of triage.
